The prostate is a gland with an average size of that of a chestnut located in the groin behind the crotch, circling the urethra above the urethral sphincter. It is composed of glands, muscle tissue and fibre. The gland is covered by a membrane known as the prostate capsule.

It is a gland which carries out an important role in fertility and the ejaculation mechanism.

The Prostate produces the prostate secretion which is essential for the survival of sperm and is a fundamental component of the semen. Furthermore it participates in the ejaculation mechanism allowing for the emission of semen.
